Psychological services assist individuals with psychological and emotional difficulties using evidence-based treatment. Psychological services at Brampton Civic Care Centre provides treatment to gain insight into your emotions, thoughts, and behaviours that may be interfering with your happiness and life fulfillment. Our psychologists use a variety of techniques to reduce your emotional distress and psychological symptoms, in addition to providing strategies to improve your coping skills. Our goal is to teach you strategies and offer tools so that you may experience better adjustment to life stressors and everyday problems, as well as helping you achieve adaptive emotional and psychological functioning.

General Psychological Services

General psychological services are provided to individuals who may be dealing with various issues such as the following:

  • Difficulty coping with chronic pain or illness
  • Fears and phobias

Clinical and Rehabilitation Psychological Services

Clinical and rehabilitation psychological services are provided to individuals following an injury, accident, and trauma.  Psychological and physical disability that develop following injury, accident, and trauma lower coping abilities and leave individuals feeling stressed and vulnerable.  Injury and disability also strain relationships and disrupt one’s functioning at home and work.  Some common experiences following an injury, accident, and trauma may include:

  • Anxiety
  • Chronic pain
  • Cognitive problems (concentration difficulty, memory problems)
  • Depressed mood
  • Driving anxiety (following a motor vehicle accident)
  • Irritability and feelings of anger
  • Low energy
  • Nightmares and flashbacks
  • Panic attacks
  • Relationship/family difficulties
  • Sleep problems
  • Stress at home or work

Psychological Services following a motor vehicle accident: What to expect? 

  1. Screening: A screening will be conducted to determine if you qualify for psychological services.
  2. Assessment: A comprehensive psychological evaluation to make decisions about your treatment needs.
  3. Treatment: A customized plan tailored to your needs to maximize your everyday functioning and reduce the negative impact of post-accident stress and/or disability in your life.

Referrals

Referrals are accepted from the following:

  • Individuals (self-referral)
  • Health professionals (e.g., physicians, chiropractors)
  • Third parties (e.g., insurance companies, lawyers)

Fees

For general psychological services, fees are usually covered by most extended health insurance plans.

For motor vehicle accident victims, fees for an assessment and treatments are usually covered by your auto insurance company.
